Spin-torque induced oscillations in the point contact geometry (small diameter)
Frequency dependence on the (reduced) current strength for the spin-torque induced magnetization oscillation in the point contact geometry.
The current is injected into a continuous Py film via a small point contact (contact diameter 40 nm). Transitions from the extended wave mode W to the first localized mode L1 and from L1 to the second localized mode L2 accompanied by frequency jumps are clearly seen. Snapshots show the grey-scale maps of the magnetization component perpendicular to the film plane for all three modes. Below we also present the oscillation power spectra of the perpendicular magnetization component for localized modes L1 and L2. Spatial maps of the oscillation power for corresponding peaks give mode profiles (leftmost maps) and power emission patterns out of the point contact area. Note that power emission patterns for both modes are highly asymmetric.
